About Roger Rossi
I have been an artist most of my life. Even though my career has been in the menswear industry, I devote my spare hours to painting in oils and watercolors using reference photographs taken from my trips to Europe. During my years at Upper Darby High, Mercersburg Academy and Lafayette College, all in Pennsylvania, my interests always were creative with a focus on artistic projects.
The New York Chapter of Mercersburg held an exhibition of the artwork of some of their alumni at the Salander-O’Reilly Gallery in New York City. My painting Chateau Near Paris was purchased and donated to the Academy to be displayed at North Cottage, the headmaster’s home.
I am a member of The Salmagundi Art Club in New York. I participate in all of the theme shows and seasonal auctions. My painting, Boatyard at Torre del Lago, was chosen as the lead entry for the poster advertisement.
While a buyer for Saks Fifth Avenue, I traveled extensively through Europe, having time to explore the beauty of various countries. Now I travel back not only to revisit the cities, but to venture into the country sides for inspiration. In selecting subject matter, I consider the potential for creating a painting which will provide enjoyment both at home or the workplace.
To improve my technique, I studied at the School of Visual Arts with Nancy Chunn, who herself paints in a contemporary manner. I found her advice to be very helpful. I was also instructed by John A. Parks who paints traditional subjects and who understood how I execute a chosen reference.
